DON VAUGHAN Landscape Artist: Prints & paintings for sale - Biography - Values at auction - Gallery of paintings - Don Vaughan on Ebay

DON VAUGHAN, a British artist, has built an enviable reputation as one of Britain's leading landscape painters, specialising particularly in beautiful and nostalgic views of the countryside. He was born in 1916 and brought up in London, where he attended school in Chiswick, winning a scholarship to the Chiswick Polytechnic School of Art from the County Grammar School. On leaving art school, he started work as a junior designer in the interior design studio of a leading London furnishing company and later, in order to gain experience, he worked for two years in a London commercial art studio. When War came in 1939 he joined the Royal Air Force and served in both Egypt and South Africa, even organising successful exhibitions of his work in Cairo and Cape Town respectively. He returned to civilian life in 1946 and became a full time professional artist in 1951, painting in oils, gouache and watercolours. Subsequently, he held numerous successful UK exhibitions, including one in London’s West End. The artist’s first love was always English landscape but he also had a small output of ornithological and railway paintings. He was especially fascinated by the effect of the changing seasons on the English countryside (of which this painting is a superb example) and by the changing duties of the farmer in bygone days, including the use of horse drawn ploughs and gathering in the harvest. The artist died in about 2005 after a long and productive life. Today, Don Vaughan is particularly famed for his legacy of over 1,500 much sought after English Landscape paintings, many of which depict scenes in and around the rural byways of Surrey, a county where he lived with his family for many years. But the popularity of these paintings reaches much wider than this through the medium of print. Limited Edition prints of his work have regularly featured in the Top Ten Sellers list and Rosenstiels’, the famous suppliers of quality art prints, still have no less 40 of Don Vaughan’s works in their catalogue.
