oatmeal treats

This treat is tooth aching sweet, combining 2 cups of sugar and a half cup of chocolate together. I feel immoral posting it nearly, with the levels of diabetes. But nevertheless, it is a recipe which has resided in my family's recipe collection for decades. The flavors of sugar and chocolate are complemented by the oatmeal and peanut butter. The recipe goes over well with small children who adore sweets but likely is too sweet for adults or older children to enjoy. Back in the day before abundance, this was a treat that didn't hurt you.

  • 1 3/4 C flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 C butter or margarine

  • 1/2 C chunky peanut butter

  • 1 C sugar

  • 1 C brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 C milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 C oatmeal

  • 1/2 C semi sweet chocolate

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set the mixture aside.

3. Soften the butter in the microwave. Soften the peanut butter in the microwave as well.

4. In a large bowl beat the butter, peanut butter, and sugar together with an electric hand mixer until the batter is creamy.

5. Beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract into the mixture. Stir in the flour mixture. Then add the oats and the chocolate pieces. Make sure to thoroughly mix the dough.

6. Drop tablespoons of the dough 3 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes. After bake set the cookies to cool on a rack or a strip of waxed paper.
