cinnamon apple crisp

The kind of apple to use in the recipe depends on personal taste. I prefer tart green apples like Granny Smith. Usually I use this recipe when I have extra apples, like after baking a pie. It is a fast recipe. Does the job. Something people will eat that uses up apples.

  • 2 C chopped apples

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 C water

  • 3/4 C flour

  • 1/3 C shortening

  • 1 C brown sugar

1. Preheat the oven to 350.

2. Wash the apples. Peel them and slice them. Make the slices thin.

3. Put the apples in a greased baking dish.

4. Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and then pour water over the apples and cinnamon.

5. In a separate bowl mix the flour, shortening, and brown sugar together.

6. Spread the flour mixture over the top of the apple mixture.

7. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon and brown sugar if desired.

8. Bake the apple crisp in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Cooking time depends on the oven.

9. Remove the crisp and let it cool for approximately 45 minutes.
