Beef Brisket

Beef brisket is a tougher cut of meat which requires a longer cook to be tender.

  • 1 piece beef brisket

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 3 large yellow onions

  • 1 C hot water

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 C cold water

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Place the brisket fat side up in a 10 - 13 inch roasting pan.

3. Season the brisket with salt and pepper.

4. Mince the garlic and slice the onions thickly.

5. Sprinkle the garlic over the brisket and place the onions on top.

6. Bake in the oven for 1 hour or until the onions turn brown.

7. Add the hot water, cover the dish with aluminum foil, and seal tightly. Reduce the oven heat to 300 and continue the cook for 2 hours.

8. Remove the brisket and onions to a warm platter.

9. To make gravy, combine the cornstarch dissolved in the cup of cold water with the cooking liquid. Cook the mixture in a sauce pan over medium-high heat until boiling and thickened. Stir frequently to avoid scorching.
