ketchup topped meatloaf in foil pans

This recipe is for 1 pan. Double for 2 pans. Meatloaf is a kid friendly dish that was fully developed in the 20th century.

American meatloaf recipes are typified by the combination of ground meat and bread. Meatloaf pans can be purchased at the grocery store, and are somewhat smaller than bread loaf pans.

The recipe below is for 1 pan. Double to get 2 pans.

  • 3/4 lb ground beef

  • 1 1/2 slices white bread

  • 1/2 C milk

  • 1 egg

  • 2 tbsp minced onion

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/8 tsp pepper

  • 1/8 tsp dry mustard

  • 1/8 tsp celery salt

  • 1/8 tsp garlic salt

  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ketchup

  • 1 foil meatloaf pan

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Tear the white bread into small pieces. If desired, the white bread can be substituted with 1/2 C of dry crumbs. If dry crumbs are substituted then the milk portion needs to be adjusted to 2/3 C.

3. Wash hands thoroughly and remove all jewelry. By hand, combine the hamburger with the bread pieces and milk. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. If desired, the 3/4 lb hamburger can be replaced with 1/2 lb hamburger and 1/4 lb ground pork.

4. Beat the egg in the measuring cup. If using fresh onion, mince the onion.

5. Combine the egg, spices, minced onion, meat mixture, and Worcestershire sauce by hand. Carefully and completely mix all of the ingredients together. Place the mix in the pans.

6. Top the meatloaf with ketchup. Bake in the oven for 1 hour.
