yorkshire pudding

Yorkshire pudding is an English dish. It is difficult to find in restaurants in America and I never had it until I made it myself. I got this recipe from my step-father's sister in Canada.

Basically, yorkshire puddings are a kind of biscuit, kind of like a popover. I've made this recipe to do the traditional English meal - with a roast, gravy, mashed potatoes, and a side of steamed vegetables. It went over very well and the popovers were gone rapidly.

  • 1/2 C roast drippings or vegetable oil, approximately

  • 1 C flour

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 C milk

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tbsp butter

1. Preheat the oven to 450.

2. Place muffin tins in the oven to heat up while mixing the batter.

3. Blend together the flour and the salt.

4. Add the milk. Beat the mix together until smooth, thick, and light.

5. Melt the butter in the microwave, or by leaving it on top of the stove.

6. Add 2 eggs to the flour mixture along with the melted butter. Beat the mixture for 2 minutes using a beater, or until well mixed.

7. Remove the muffin tins from the oven and grease them. Add the batter to the muffin tins.

8. Bake in the oven at 450 for 20 minutes.

9. Lower the temperature of the oven to 350 and bake for another 20 minutes.

10. Let the puddings cool for 20-30 minutes before serving.
