cranberry punch

This is a hot punch my mother used to make on occasion when we were children. I would get excited when she made it. Be careful to get pure juice items which are actually cranberry juice and lemonade. The punch won't taste right with a mixed juice or artificially flavored juice.

  • 4 C cranberry juice

  • 2/3 C sugar

  • 1 12 oz can of thawed lemonade concentrate

  • 4 C water

  • 2 Tbsp honey

  • 6 whole cloves

  • 2 cinnamon sticks, broken

  • 1 lemon, sliced (unpeeled)

1. In a pot over low heat, combine the cranberry juice, sugar, lemonade concentrate, water, and honey. Stir the ingredients together.

2. Slice the lemon. Do not peel it. Set the lemon slices aside.

3. Tie the cloves and cinnamon in small cheesecloth squares to make a spice bag.

4. Add the spice bag and the lemon slices to the punch. If you have no cheesecloth squares, you can add the spices directly to the punch.

5. Cover, and cook for 3 to 4 hours. Stir occasionally.

6. Remove the spice bag. If you added the spices directly, remove them with tongs or a slotted spoon.

7. Keep the punch hot, and serve with a ladle.
