homemade biscuits

This is a basic biscuit recipe, also good for pigs in a blanket. It produces a somewhat flaky biscuit. When I make this recipe I get around twelve to fifteen rolls with a little bit of dough left over, depending on how thin I roll out the dough and the size of the cup I use to cut the dough.

I've drizzled honey and cheese over them before, suppose I could do butter and seasonings. With a floured rolling pin this is a fast easy recipe.

~edit. [shortcut] Instead of rolling it out you can just divide the dough into 12 to 15 pieces and then flatten each one out as desired. That really speeds up this recipe, makes it convenient. Highly recommend doing it this way.

**Some biscuits and two pigs in a blanket made with the leftover dough**

  • 2 C flour

  • 3 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/3 C oil

  • 2/3 C milk

1. Preheat the oven to 475.

2. Stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Pour the milk and oil into a measuring cup. Do not stir the milk and oil.

4. Pour the milk and oil into the flour. Stir the mixture with a fork until the mixture clears the sides of the bowl and rounds up into a ball.

5. Smooth the dough up by kneading it about ten times without adding additional flour. I knead by pressing the dough flat in the bowl with my knuckles. Then I fold it in half and knead it flat again. So folding and flattening the dough ten times would be ten kneads for me.

6. Spread waxed paper over a flat surface. Place the dough between two pieces of waxed paper and press it out to 1/4 inch thick. The dough can also be pressed out on a floured surface without wax paper.

7. Cut the dough with an unfloured biscuit cutter. If no biscuit cutter is available, cut the dough with a cup or other circular utensil. You'll roll out the dough scraps again and cut it until the dough is used up.

8. Bake the biscuits for 10 to 12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.

**Here's step 6. I always use a cup because I don't have a biscuit cutter**
