bulgogi

Bulgogi is a Korean recipe for marinated beef. My sister-in-law is Korean. In Korean the word bulgogi means fire meat, which refers to how it is cooked. The marinade can be used with other kinds of meats such as chicken and pork.

  • 2 lbs sirloin steak or rib eye

  • 5 tbsp soy sauce

  • 3 minced garlic cloves

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • pepper to taste

  • 4 chopped green onions

  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seed

  • 1 inch fresh ginger finely chopped

1. Mince the garlic and chop the green onions. Peel the ginger and finely chop it. Toast the sesame seeds if needed. That means lay them on a sheet and cook them in the oven at 350 for 8 to 10 minutes. As oven cook times vary check them to remove when lightly browned.

2. Get out a bowl. Mix together the soy sauce, the minced garlic, the sesame oil, the sugar, the pepper, the green onions, the sesame seed, and the the minced ginger.

3. Put the meat in a freezer bag. Pour the marinade in. Remove as much of the air as you can, and make sure the meat is thoroughly covered. Put the meat in the fridge and marinate for at least 1 hour.

4. When the meat is marinated take it out and barbecue it. Grill the meat until it is well cooked. Other cook methods can also be used.
