📌Recommended use case:
Remote wipe a device to erase all data on it in the case where the device is stolen or missing.
❗️Caution:
This action should be considered a last resort and must be performed carefully, as it may have irreversible effects.
📌Pre-Requisite
You need to be an IT/HR Admin to trigger these action.
Your organization needs to be on the Secure or Complete Plan.
The device must be listed under "Managed Devices" and have an "Active" status.
The device needs to have the JumpCloud agent installed and be online i.e. connected to the Internet for the actions to execute successfully.
📌Important Notes:
To Erase Device Details
Windows: Review device details shown at the top of the right side drawer.
Mac: Input a 6-digit pin that is used later on by the device owner to unlock the device. Make sure to record this 6-digit pin and communicate this with the employee holding on to the device.
Linux: Review device details shown at the top of the right side drawer.
iOS: Review device details shown at the top of the right side drawer.
Android: Review device details shown at the top of the right side drawer.
⚠️ Cautions & Important Notes
The wiping process typically takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on the amount of data on the device.
The device is powered on
The device is connected to the internet
The device is plugged into a power adapter
The device is not in sleep mode or locked
MacBook, iOS, and Android devices:
After the wipe is complete, the device will reset and display the welcome/setup screen.
Windows devices:
After wiping, the device will enter Recovery Mode.
❗️Note: We do not currently recommend triggering this action on Windows devices. If you need to wipe a Windows device, please raise a support ticket, and our team will assist with the process manually.
