*YOKE
Your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light (Mt 11:30). Ancient rabbis used to refer to the Mosaic Law as a kind of yoke. A good yoke is carefully shaped to reduce chafing to a minimum. When he says his burden is light, it might actually be heavy, but we find it possible to carry out our responsibilities because Jesus will help us. A yoke joins a pair of oxen and make them a team. By walking alongside Jesus we learn to carry the burdens as he does it. Jesus did not promise to take away our burdens, but promised to help us carry them. (Gift of Peace, p124-6)
