For John of the Cross, letting go was of ideas and images of God. (Meaning, p133)
By letting go, Imean the ability to release from our grasp those things that inhibit us from developing an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus. Letting go is possible if we understand the importance of opening our hearts and developing a healthy prayer life. Many times I only let him come in part of the way. I talked with him but seemed afraid to let him take over because I wanted to succeed and be acknowledged as a person who has succeeded. I wanted to control things to make come out "right." Have I feared that God's will may be different from mine? (Gift of Peace, p3,7)
