*JANUS
Janus was the Roman god of doors and gateways, of beginnings. Janus, for whom the month of January was named, was always pictured with two faces looking in opposite directions, one young and one old. Israel is like Janus: one face belongs to religious Jews (older) and the other face the nonreligious Jews (younger) who believe political solutions only come through the peace process. (p28) The Messiah also has two faces, both a suffering servant and a reigning king. He is both a gentle shepherd and a victorious warrior. (p42) Israel will soon see the advent of two Messiahs: one false, one true. Which one will you choose? (p188) (Beginning of the End)
