Believe

*BELIEF/*BELIEVE - also see FAITH, TRUST, OPEN

Antonyms: DOUBT

Erroneous beliefs, which has caused them to generate toxic or imperfect energies in their subconscious minds. This has literally dammed up the stream of consciousness that flows from the Christ self so that the person no longer has a clear connection to that Christ self. The spiritual path can be seen as a process whereby the soul must overcome its imperfect beliefs and transform the toxic energies, thereby clearing the stream of consciousness. I believe; help my unbelief (Mark 9:24)

As one progresses on the path, he too will in time be able to say, not 'I believe', but 'I know'. The first step is a seeking for something in which one can believe without doubt; something that does not have to be accepted on blind faith alone; something that will not only uplift and spiritualize the heart, mind, and the soul, but also satisfy to the fullest the most rigorous

demands of reason and intelligence. (Yoga, p5)

Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned. (John 3:18)

Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. (John 20:29)

St. Augustine (from Plato) argued that religious faith and philosophical understanding are complementary, rather than opposed, and that one must "believe in order to understand and understand in order to believe". A person can not develop the natural virtues of courage, justice, temperence, and wisdom without the religious virtues of faith, hope, and charity which require divine grace to be attained. (St. Augustine)

Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. (John 3:14-15)

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Do your best and let God do the rest. (Thomas Lickona, Professor at Corland, Post Standard 4/27/96)

People are not just called upon to follow the teachings and example of Jesus, but our status as Christians and our entry into heaven are made to depend on a particular belief - a belief in Jesus Christ. A response to the messenger is a response to the message, because to accept or reject God's messenger and God's message is to accept or reject God. See the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14:16-24). (Common Sense, p64)
