*EMPTY - see NOTHING, VOID, UNKNOWING, +*6
It is the law of the universe that whatever is empty becomes full. When we empty ourselves of our tensions and worries, we allow something different to fill us. Emptiness and uncertainity are somewhat the same thing. Uncertainity means every possibility remains open, we stand at the edge of our freedom to choose among many potential outcomes. (Stillness, p58)
God speaks very gently to us when he invites us to make more room for him in our lives. The tension that arises comes not from him but from us. The first step of letting go is linked with emptying everything - plans and distractions. "Though he was in the form of God, he did not deem equality with God something to be grasped at. Rather, he emptied himself." (Phil 2:6) To be emptied of self seems beyond our reach as humans, but if we try, God does most of the work. (Gift of Peace, p15-7)
Too many people rush around competing, consuming, collecting things in a rush to be bigger and better. But this reveals only inner emptiness, a lack of peace within. (Tao Peace, p63)
Any two relative realities collapse into the ultimate reality of emptiness. But emptiness is not somewhere else; it is here and now, all-embracing, and inalienable; it is perfect, unimpeded Total Field of Enlightenment or Suchness - and it is what we are! We are all already Buddha-Nature if only we would realize it. There is ultimately no problem (suffering, samsara) and no solution (nirvana), because "everything" and "eveyone" is always-already enlightened. A final twist: emptiness too is empty. It is not an ultimately "correct" concept but rather a lever to extricate ourselves from the delusion that any concept are ultimate. The really Real can be known only intuitive realization, never by discursive conceptualizing. (Wisdom, Buddhism, p78)
For Spirit, I also use the Buddhist term "Emptiness". But Spirit or Emptiness gives rise to form. Spirit or Emptiness is unqualifiable, but it is not inert and unyielding, for it gives rise to manifestation itself: new forms emerge, and that creativity is ultimate. (Everything, p25,27)
We have to empty ourselves of our self-sufficiency if we are to receive the Holy Spirit. We have to empty ourselves of all our iddols, if we are to have room for the true God within us. Once aware of our nothingness, then the creator can make something out of nothing. (ThemesNT, p89)
All objects, even God as a perceived form, vanish into cessation, and so deity mysticism gives way to formless mysticism. In the state of infinite nothing, it is too Full to be contained in any object or any subject or any sight or any sound. It is pure consciousness, pure awareness, prior to any manifestation. It is utterly timeless, spaceless, objectless and therefore radically and infinitely free of those limitations and constrictions. This Emptiness is the unmanifest source and cause or creative ground of all junior dimensions. The pattern that manifestation displays as it arises is a pattern that is a potential of Emptiness, a potential of the Godhead [ie. we can be like gods]. That same Emptiness, as Consciousness, was present all along as the interior depth of every holon, a depth that increasingly shed its lesser forms until it shed forms altogether - its depth goes to infinity, its time goes to eternity, its interior space is all space, its agency is the very Divine itself: the ground, path, and FRUITION OF EMPTINESS. (Everything, p225-6)
Emptiness is detachment from self, world, possessions, materialism. Emptiness is not physical, but spirit only. (Randy)
When we are in deep, all-encompassing peace, empty of thoughts and images, a mysterious fullness seems to surround us and penetrate our consciousness. The best way to receive is to give it away. If you give everything back to God, you will always be empty, and when you are empty, there is more room for God. (Open Mind, p86,88)
I wonder if emptiness and fullness is not a duality, but the same thing like the alpha and omega. (Randy)
Great interior peace is a reality called "naked being" which has no form and no location. Words like "limitless space, quiet, peace, freedom, being, and life" are usually used to describe this. We have reached our truest, inner-most being. Nothing has to be sought elsewhere. It is the primordial ground, the innermost essence, the naked being of the human person. Emptiness is at the same time ultimate reality. All dualism disappear. Here there is no longer good and evil, superior and inferior, above and below, beautiful and ugly. (Contemplation, p23)
The parable of the rich young man became so clear to me. When it says: "Sell everything" the meaning is that all expectation, seeking, desiring, and wishing must likewise be sold. As long as anything is held back, God too holds back. Everything in exchange for everything. (Contemplation, p124)
In order to make room for the world, God had vacated a region within himself. In this act of "shrinking" or "withdrawal", God had thus created a place where he was not, an empty space that he could fill by self-revelation and creation. He put a limit upon Himself. Later God emptied himself into his Son. (Hist, p267)
Emptiness means the spirit or essence of something, whereas, wholeness is the material or aspects of things which seem to be evolving for an eternity.
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, emptied himself, taking the form of a slave being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross. (Christianity, Wisdom, p258)
