*TEMPT/*TEMPTATION
When Jesus said: "lead us not into temptation" did he mean
that there is a dark aspect to God (reality)? This becomes clear in the
Book of Revelation where the fury and cruelty of the evil side of God so
often encountered like in the Old Testament. (Jung, p170)
Your wealth and your children are but a temptation. (Islam, Wisdom, p301)
Eating of the fruit in the Garden in the short seemed like the devil was telling the truth since man didn't die immediately and man became aware of his nakedness. But in the long term, we now see that the devil was lying and God telling the truth. (Randy)
We humans are always tempted to serve ourselves instead of others, to put our trust in ourselves and our possessions instead of in God. THOSE WHO ARE WEALTHY SIMPLY HAVE THAT MUCH MORE TEMPTATION: PRIVILEGES TO PROTECT, COMFORT TO BE SEDUCED BY, POWER TO PUT FAITH IN, WEALTH TO SERVE AND WORSHIP. Living faithfully in the middle class requires constant attention and will power. (Common Sense, p196,198,)
Divine comfort gives us the stength to bear up under adversity. Temptation then follows, lest we become proud of our goodness. The devil never sleeps, nor is temptation ever far off; therefore, do not cease tp prepare yourself for the fight. (Imitation, Book2, Ch9)
