*GLUTTONY
Addiction to food can be compared to clinging to spiritual goods as if one's prayer life depended on finding fulfillment on this lower level of gratification. Their tendency is to strive more for spiritual savor than for spiritual purity and discretion. In the dark night gluttons give up their craving for spiritual sweets. One learns the wisdom of the cross. (Dark Night, p66-7, 74)
I was trapped in spiritual gluttony. Gluttony can involve more than just food. Gluttony of anything, including our dwelling on the past and the mistakes we made there, can enslave us. (Awakening, p32-3)
