*MOTIVE
Our good motives are obscured by our bad methods. (Randy)
Our way is still weak and imperfect. There is too much of US in what we do, not enough of God. We need to reform our motives, if not our actions. There is still a lot of inner work left for us to do in response to the forming, reforming, and transforming power of grace. Often we really do good for the sake of receiving rewards. Our love is bound up with what they get rather than with what we give. Our focus should not be on personal satisfaction but on obedience to God. We must shift to the desire to do good for God's sake, whether or not we receive any visible reward. (Dark Night, p35-6)
