Salvation is the process of becoming increasingly conscious and of healing and of becoming whole. (p25) In mythology the gods feared androgynous humans becoming like them so they split humans beings into halves - male and female. As half creatures, we were no longer capable of competing with the gods, yet we were left feeling incomplete and yearning for our lost wholeness, hoping that in the moment of sexual union we might re-experience the loss bliss of our near godlike totality. (p220) However, we are disappointed if we look for our spouse to meet all of our needs, to fulfill us, to bring us a lasting Heaven on earth. [see Idolatry] (p224)(Further)
To realize with both head and heart, in others words, is the whole person. To enter the kingdom of heaven is to become a child of the Heavenly Father humbly and simply and unsophisticatedly, able to open your heart to accept everything. To attain marvellous enlightenment, you must rid yourself completely of your discriminating mind, to abandon all cognitive and reasoning process. (Zen & Bible, p74-5)
The killing sword and the life giving sword are dynamically one. The killing sword is the life giving sword because in the process of killing becomes life. Similiarly, Jesus' resurrection is inseparably related to this death. The cross is resurrection; the resurrection is the cross. If a person transcends the dualistic opposites of life and death, then we can realize that everything is a manifestation of the divine life and that we too must carry the cross with Christ. Suffering and death are also the life of God; it is evident then that all the adversities of life are, at the same time, the resurrection (rebirth) in the divine life. (Zen & Bible, p178-180)
Thy faith hath made thee whole. (Mark 5:34)
In some strange sense, we are more whole when we are incomplete, when we are missing something. The man who has everything is in some ways a poor man. He will never know what it feels like to yearn, to hope, to nourish his soul with the dream of something better. There is a wholeness about a person who can give himself away, who can give his time, his money, his strength to others. There is a wholeness about the person who has come to terms with his limitations, who knows who he is and what he can and cannot do, the person who has been brave enough to let go of his unrealistic dreams and not feel like a failure for doing so. To be whole before God means to stand before Him with all of our faults as well as all of our virtues, and hear the message of our acceptability. TO BE WHOLE MEANS TO RISE BEYOND THE NEED TO PRETEND THAT WE ARE PERFECT, TO RISE ABOVE THE FEAR THAT WE WILL BE REJECTED FOR NOT BEING PERFECT. (How Good, p179-180) - also see IMPERFECT.
For the first time in history we have access to both Freud and Buddha, both East and West, for a more "full spectrum" approach. (Everything, p155)
To feel whole again, each of us can and must reconnect with our spiritual self. A balance between body and spirit is essential for mortal well-being. When in a balanced state the spirit no longer at the mercy of our body. Spirit can control the flesh. (Awakening, p215)
Wholes depend upon parts, but not vice versa (Everything, p32). Therefore, God depends upon each of us. (Randy)
The whole is God and God is the whole. (Randy)
The saying "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" is anologous to a synergy. For example: the synergy of having sun, soil, water, and a seed will produce a plant. Another example is: by having both the Payroll and Finance on the same computer allows for integrated capabilities like RFAs, P/R journal entries, A/P batch from P/R check run; or each musical instrument making an orchestra, both male and female are needed for reproduction, etc. (Randy)
At first I thought of a prism as a symbol where we were the colors (visible aspects) and God as the white (invisible essence) light only. Now I think that our monist one God is not only the various colors of the spectrum but also the white light, therefore both invisible essence (spirit) and visible aspects (material). (Randy)
