Farzad's Poems
What is poetry?
Aristotle's definition of poetry and what can be classified as poetry is brutally Greek and is based on a very non-poetical view of poetry. Nevertheless, it is a good definition which explains the difference between history and poetry, suggesting that while a historian should stick to facts and base his writing on the facts as they happen, a poet is free to exaggerate and see the world not as it is but the way he wants them to be.
Agreeing with everything he says I have my own definition of poetry which adds a new dimension to Aristotle's definition and that is its musicality, its flow and the joy it gives to the readers. I have put my definition of this new dimension in a poem, which is unfortunately or fortunately in my own mother tongue Persian.
