Although Nelson Mandela is not with us anymore but, his deep and positive influence in the world at large, amongst both the oppressed and oppressor, is going to be with us for as long as there is injustice in this world.
He won the admiration of the politicians and the ordinary people in the east and the west, in the north and the south, those who have and those who have not.
There have been many leaders who devoted their lives to the struggle of the their nations for freedom and equality and the struggle of the oppressed people in this world but, what made Nelson Mandela different was his capacity to forgive those who wronged him and his people. Those who caused his nation to suffer the most humiliating, oppressive and inhumane regime of the last half a century.
Nelson Mandela's realistic approach towards the old enemies and his humanity made him the most beloved statesman in the world. After leading his nation to victory, he set up Truth and Reconciliation committees to heal the rift between those who had suffered and those who were responsible for their sufferings. With this approach he managed to stop revenge, mass killings and the destruction of his country. Not only he treated everyone with kindness and respect but he invited his followers and indeed the whole nation to follow his example.
May his humanity and realistic policies be an example for all of us rich and poor, black and white.
