What is Zone Hockey?
Zone Hockey is a five/six-a-side game in which all students, mainstream or students with disability can participate side by side in what is a high scoring, fast moving, fun game of hockey. The game is suitable for electric wheelchair users, manual wheelchair users, ambulant and semi-ambulant students. It was developed by Nottingham Trent University as part of Project Adapted.
The Zone Hockey unit has been adapted from the Australian Sports Commision's Sports Ability Playing Cards.

In the Sport education teaching resource, games are modified using the TREE model.
The TREE model is a practical tool designed to support teachers to adapt and modify an activity to be more inclusive of students with a range of abilities.
The TREE acronym stands for:
Teaching Style - Communication and delivery strategies/ideas to assist students achieve success.
Rules - Simplifying or changing rules, then re-introduce as skill levels increase.
Equipment - Using different sizes, shapes, colours, textures and/or weights of equipment.
Environment - Varying the length, height, zones, floor, and seating/standing conditions of a playing area.

Inclusive and adaptive practices in sport and physical activity
Enrol in the Inclusive and adaptive practices in sport and physical activity to learn more about delivering quality sport and physical activity lessons for all students, including those with disability. Participants will learn to use research-based frameworks to modify and adapt sport and physical activity lessons and identify resources available to enhance the delivery of inclusive sport and physical activity.
