Small-sided games
In the week prior to the gala-day, students may be given time to create signs to support their team at the gala-day.
Set-up playing area prior to the session..
Players participate in the games as a team.
Select a student from each team to be the team captain for the gala-day.
Fast start - Alphabets
Equipment: 8 markers (to set out playing area).
How to play:
Set out the playing area (25 students = approximately 25m x 25m). How to play
Students move around the playing area using a nominated locomotor movement. The teacher calls out a letter of the alphabet and students form groups of three to make the shape of that letter.
Vary the locomotor movements used, eg. run, leap, skip.
Small sided games
Hit 4 and Go
Equipment: A suitable indoor or outdoor playing area as shown, range of bats/rackets and balls (sponge balls, softballs or tennis balls), marker cones (for running and playing area), batting tee(s)
How to play: A batter hits 4 consecutive balls into the field and then runs / leaps between marker cones as many times as possible. When the fielders have returned all 4 balls they call out ‘STOP!’ 4–5 per group.
Batter
Hits 4 balls, one after the other off a batting tee, into the playing space.
When the last ball is hit, the batter runs / leaps between the marker cones as many times as possible.
Fielders
Fielders return the balls to the home base – balls must be inside the hoop to count.
Fielders call ‘STOP!’ when the last ball reaches home base
Scoring:
From cone to cone = one point.
Points are totalled for the team.

2 stars and a wish
