On the Cross

Multimedia, 30x31, March 2019

After admiring Dadaist art at the Museum of Modern Art, I began looking at ways that I could render art materials functionless by appropriating them as art. I started with a mangled paint tube and nailed it to a black wooden block. I decided to orient it so that the tube appeared figure-like, alluding to the crucifixion. This piece demonstrates that by abandoning the original purpose of a tool, the artist can open a new realm of possibilities.
