Purge My Perfection (I Dare You)

Marker, Pencil and Construction Paper 64.135 cm x 19.685 cm (from left panel to right panel) May, 2019

As one of the first pieces in which I experimented with the adding of text, I wanted to create a tension between the story told in writing and the accompanying image. In keeping with the theme I spelled out the word “purge” and assigned a seemingly positive adjective to the letters, P, U and R. The female images are supposed to represent societal ideals of beauty and the text is supposed to shed light on the harsh reality. I was influenced by the work of Donald Urquhart and Carrie Mae Weems.
