Dominos, Masonite board, Tempera, 1 ½” by 3 ½”, 11” by 14”, 18” by 23 ⅞”, 1/1/20-3/5/20

I explored the theme of intimacy more directly with the medium I used. My decision to use dominos was intentional because I wanted to implement a part of my memory that people don’t usually use as art. When I was younger, I used to play dominos with my family a lot. When we went on trips to the Dominican Republic, we would spend a lot of time playing dominos because the days felt longer than in America due to the lack of daily stresses like a job or school. Dominos were our way of bonding and it helped us bond with the neighbors. I wanted to create 3 pieces in this series with different dimensions. The content of each piece would be different, but it would be related to time and space freezing or pausing. I wanted to use two different colored solid dominos in order to have a contrast effect for the background and the dominos. The piece may not seem intimate, but once the reader understands that the dominos are representative of memories that I am trying to compartmentalize by using it as a medium and by using language to freeze time, the sentiment of personalness would shine through.
