This piece was my first attempt at painting automatically. I have used gouache since the expensiveness of the medium gave a thrill and guilt to my unmindful process. I emphasized the wound-like areas in one of the paintings by scratching at the paper to create “scars” on the paper. After I finished each piece, I wrote a semi-humorous caption onto the paintings. These captions add levity to the somber monotone of each painting.
