Friends

The themes that I am attempting to show in this piece are intimacy and value. This piece is all about the importance of these three friends and the worth that they bring into my life. The subject matter in these pictures is of three of my closest friends. All three of these people are important and bring value to me and my life, which helps in elaborating on the themes and message of intimacy and importance. When developing the subject matter of this piece I decided on an up-close and personal portrait so that I would be able to depict and let the view focus and the person and the specific quality of their face and body language. The subject matter in this piece is specifically important to me because it allows me to focus on the qualities and value that these three people bring to me. Additionally, when creating this series of work I made formal choices to help to convey the themes I had been attempting to exhibit. One of these decisions was whether the pictures should be in color or not. When there is an absence of color the distinct features are able to emerge and the feeling of memory and nostalgia beings to develop. This is the reason why I chose the pictures to be displayed in black and white. The absence of color allows for the themes of intimacy and connections to become apparent. Through this series, I hope to have the viewer connect with the figures and be able to see the value that they hold.
