THE BRUDDAHS

Acrylic on canvas, 76.2 x 254 cm February 2020

This piece was inspired by the iconic portraits of the Beatles’ members. After seeing the work of Spanish artist Coco Davez, and being inspired by her bold use of color and expressionless faces, I wanted to make something similar. However, as I finished making the body of the first Beatle (top left) I began to think that if I were to draw a recognizable outline of one their heads this would be too unoriginal. I flirted with the idea of not including a head at all on any of them but then that seemed too uniform. I took my paint brush and just made brush strokes, and then thought about making the head a flame. My idea formulated to make the rest in a similar fashion, but ditching the head on my final figure.
