This piece explores the themes and the idea of significant aspects of my life. Millie, being my dog, represents the themes of connections, intimacy, and love. The subject matter in this piece is of my dog Millie. Millie is of great importance to me which helped me to elaborate on the message and themes that I am attempting to convey. Millie, the subject matter, is presented in the composition of a portrait that normally would have been seen of a human being. I have chosen to present Millie in this composition as it symbolized the importance of her and that a dog can be close to you as a human being. This composition conveys that connection. Additionally, the choice to show her in a small composition creates a more intimate and personal feel. Furthermore, the use of just her head and not her body makes a specific focus on her facial features. This allows the viewer to see her personality clearly and creates the ability for connections and intimacy. Through this piece, I hope to make the audience experience and understand the emotional connections that I hold with the subject matter.
