Gerhard Stöck of Germany takes the lead ahead of the Finns in the javelin. Yrjö Nikkanen claims the silver and Kalervo Toivonen bronze. Disappointingly, world record holder Matti Järvinen finishes fifth.
Jack Lovelock sprints to victory in the 1500 metres with a 300-metre kick. He wins the race in a world record of 3:47.8. The top five finishers run all under the old Olympic record time.
Naoto Tajima of Japan becomes the first to break the 16-metre mark by bouncing 16.00m (15-5 7/8) in the triple jump. His countryman Masao Harada fineshes second. Australian Jack Metcalfe is third.
Georgian boy Forrest Towns licks the 110 metres hurdles for the win after getting his machine going after the third hurdle. He clocks 14.2. Next year, Towns lowered the high hurdles world record to 13.7 in Oslo. The result was so stunning that the record committee of the IAAF investigated the conditions of the race for nearly two years before ratifying to the time as an official world record.
