Saint-Gaudens, July 20–27, 1924
Armas Taipale, the Olympic champion who struggled at the Paris Olympics, threw the discus 47.65 meters (156-4) in one of the last competitions of his European career. Taipale's result went unrecorded in official record books.
Double Olympic javelin champion Jonni Myyrä threw his season's best in both the discus (44.05 meters or 144-6) and the javelin (63.17 meters or 207-3). This was likely Myyrä's last competition in Europe before he fled to the United States via Japan to escape creditors. He never returned to Finland. Taipale also left for America, though he eventually returned to Finland in the 1970s.
