In Fresno’s West Coast Relays on Cornelius Warmerdam's home turf, a high-caliber shot put competition took place. Ranked second in the world in 1929, German-American Herman Brix launched a throw of 15.84 (52-½), earning second place in both the competition and world rankings, right behind true German Emil Hirschfeld. Harlow Rother took second with a throw of 15.44 (50-8).
Olympians Frank Wykoff and Charley Borah sped down the 100-yard dash in 9.6, matching the official world record. Both confirmed the time by running it twice. Stanford’s 4x440 yard relay team also posted an impressive time, ranking second worldwide at 3:18.2.
