White City Stadium, London, UK, July 16 & 18, 1908
Martin Sheridan, an Irish-born athlete who served in the New York City Police Department, secured two discus gold medals at the 1908 London Olympics, held at the now-demolished White City Stadium.
In the ancient style competition, his throw reached 37.99m (124-8), while in the free-style event, he achieved a distance of 40.89m (134-2).
He also successfully defended his free-style discus Olympic title from four years prior in the St. Louis Games.
In addition to his discus triumphs, Sheridan also emerged victorious in the standing high jump in London.
Unfortunately, Sheridan passed away in 1918 due to the Spanish flu.
