Drake Stadium, Des Moines, IA, April 27–28, 1928
The weather wasn't entirely favorable for the Drake Relays. Stiff winds hampered the runners, while the 14,000-strong crowd basked in the sun in the stands.
The best relay result was achieved by the Northwestern University quartet, which sped to a world-leading time of 1:28.0 in the non-Olympic 4x220 yard relay. Olympic pole vault champion Lee Barnes won his event with a modest result.
