Greensboro, NC, May 9, 1925
A special 100-yard invitational race was held in conjunction with high school competitions in North Carolina, where 200-meter Olympic champion Jackson Scholz sprinted to victory on a hard clay track with 9.5. It was a tenth of a second faster than the official world record. Organizers requested the American federation to recognize the result, but the request was denied. The application lacked any assessment of eg. wind conditions.
