Olympic Stadium, Antwerp, Belgium, August 19 & 21, 1920
Vilho Tuulos of Tampere wins Finland's only Olympic gold medal in jumping events so far. The victory mark of the hop, step and jump on the substandard runway that was better suited for mud wrestling was 14.505m (47-6 ¾). Sweden's Folke Janson finished 2.5 centimeters behind.
In the following Olympic Games, in Paris 1924 and Amsterdam 1928, Tuulos won bronze. He is one of three Finnish track and field athletes, along with Paavo Nurmi and Seppo Räty, to have won a medal in three Olympic Games.
