Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, July 22, 1952
New South Wales sprinter Marjorie Jackson (later Jackson-Nelson), 20, dashed to a dominant victory in the 100 meters. Her winning time of 11.5 seconds (11.67 with automatic timing) equalled the world record. During the amateur era, careers were not pursued for decades: Jackson married in 1953 and stopped competitive running the following year. She later served as the Governor of South Australia.
