Stade de Colombes, Paris, August 9, 1925
France and Switzerland faced off at the Colombes Olympic stadium. The star of the dual meet was Switzerland's Olympic silver medalist Paul Martin, who sped to a dominant victory in the 800 with a relatively fast time of 1:53.2. France's René Wiriath, eliminated in the heats at the Paris Games, was three seconds behind.
The world-leading mark hammered by Douglas Lowe a month earlier was only 0.4 seconds away for Martin, who had also competed in Finland a few weeks earlier. In the season's world rankings, Martin occupied the fifth spot.
In the Olympic relay (800+400+200+100 meters), Switzerland took the victory, not least thanks to Martin's furious two-lap leg.
France's Roger Pelé was in top dual meet form. He won the 1500 meters just as he had taken the event a couple of weeks earlier in the meet against Britain. Joseph Guillemot, a rival of Paavo Nurmi who was making a comeback to the tracks, won the 5000 meters.
Gabriel Sempé, eliminated in the 110m hurdles heats at both the Paris and Amsterdam Olympics, clinked a French record of 15.0.
Germany had thrashed Switzerland in their 1920s dual meets, and now it was France's turn to beat the boys from the cuckoo clock country, 75–57.
