Hopkinton to Boston, MA, April 19, 1924
Clarence "DeMarathon" DeMar claimed victory at the 28th Boston Marathon. This was his fourth win at the event, his first having been in 1911.
The 26.2-mile race also served as the U.S. Olympic qualifier for the Paris Games. DeMar’s strong performance carried through to Paris, where he secured the bronze medal in the Olympic marathon. He could not, however, outpace Finland’s Albin Stenroos, who took the gold.
