Kamehameha Field, Honolulu, HI | April 1, 1922
In April 1922, the world's fastest man, Charley Paddock, traveled to Hawaii for a month-long exhibition tour. In one 100-yard race, he ran a time of 9.4 seconds, which corresponds to 10.3 seconds for 100 meters, or a tenth of a second below Paddock's own official world record in the 100m. However, we greet these exhibition race results with great skepticism.
In an official race in Hawaii, on April 1, Paddock ran 100 yards in 9.6 seconds, which corresponds to 10.5 seconds for 100 meters. This time was enough to secure a shared first place in the 1922 world rankings.
