Meiji Jingu Stadium, Tokyo, May 19, 1929
Kinue Hitomi, the versatile athlete who won the long jump and standing long jump at the 1926 Women's World Games and took silver in the 800 metres in Amsterdam, blasted to a world record of 24.7 in the straight 200 in May 1929. This time is estimated to be equivalent to about 25.2 on a curved track. Hitomi was a true pioneer, as the 200 was not yet an Olympic event, not even in the 1932 Los Angeles Games.
