Stockholm Stadium, Stockholm, Sweden, August 25, 1919
Jonni Myyrä of Finland launched long throws in the 1910s, but apparently, they weren't officially recognized as records, possibly due to Swedish pressure. Presumably somewhat upset, he then took a trip to Stockholm in autumn 1919 and a threw massive 66.10-metre (216-7) heave to finally secure official recognition as the world record.
Before his world record throw in Stockholm, Myyrä achieved the world's best javelin result in 1914, 1915, and 1917. Later in the 1920s, he won Olympic gold in the javelin in the 1920 Antwerp Games and repeated it in Paris in 1924.
