Beautiful Lunang Town . . . in amazingly scenic setting . . . the place where we stopped for our Speciality Stone Pot Lunch
1st November 2025 Drive from Bome to Nyingchi
We started from our Bome Hotel after breakfast and drove along G-318 westward heading for our next night-stop at Nyingchi. It was to be a "big" day today for we are to stop and see Namche Barwa snow peak today. But it was a rainy, cloudy day today and it seemed unlikely that we will get to view Namche Barwa.
First we stopped at the Kamu Snow Peak viewpoint (at the 4000KM point from Shanghai on the G318 highway) and got some snow sliver views, but mostly cloudy scene.
But soon we got held up on for 2 hours, at a place where the traffic was stopped for some construction work. Later, we stopped at a huge Suspension Bridge, near the junction of two rivers Palong Zangbo and Yiong Zangbo. We stopped there for a few minutes to take the pictures of the bridge and the scenic clouds floating around the mountains in that valley.
Around 3 pm we reached a beautiful scenic town Lunang and stopped here for lunch at a Speciality Stone-Pot lunch Restaurant. This town was in a beautiful valley setting with river streams and greenery. The Stone Pot restaurants there well built in Tibetan style with mutiple Dining Rooms for different party sizes. We were seated in 10 Seater Round table room witha beutiful view outside. I took several pictures of the interior decor of this amazing eating place.
Around 6pm we reached the Namche Barwa Viewing Platform on G318 but as expected, we got no view of that mighty mountain due to clouds.
We were quite disappointed as this was one of the important highlight points, for the trip planners.. Our Guide, Jamyang had taken a beautiful sunny picture of Namche Barwa from this very viewpoint, about a week back on his way Kunming to pick us up. Seeing his picture we realized what we had missed.

We reached our Nyingchi hotel quite late around 8:30 pm and checked-in and soon we went out to dinner at a Tibeten Restaurant a few buildings down the road from our hotel. I think, we had few Lhasa Beers (quite cheap at 6 Yuan a bottle) to drown out the sorrow of missing seeing Namche Barwa.
