Pabbar Valley - Chandranahan Lake Trek

Trek Group assembly at Hatkoti and the The original Trek Plan

Hatkoti - 5017 ft

N 31* 07.934' - E 77* 44.865'

Our Original Plan was to trek up the Pabbar Valley in HP and cross the Buran or Gunas Pass and then descend into Sangla Valley. Thereafter a Jeep ride to Kafnu via Wangtu, and a 2nd Trek over Kambo Khanga. But due to unseasonal heavy rains and snow on 5th day of the trek at Litham, the Buran & Gunas passes were covered with fresh snow and so our Pass crossing got aborted and due to incessant rains ,we had to make a hasty evacuation retreat from Litham to Janglikh and then Rohru. Luckily, we could visit Chandranahan Lake at 4000M (13,200ft) on the 4th day.

So I have named this trek as Pabbar Chandranahan Trek.

Our Trek Group: There were seven of us on this trek, led by Maunish. The other six members were Prakash, Suzanne, Sanghvi, Sriram, Nithya and KS (me). Maunish, Prakash, Suzanne were veteran trekkers. Sanghvi and me were amateurs with some trekking experience; whereas Sriram & Nithya (from Chennai) were new to trekking in the Himalayas. Our Trek Organiser was Prem Singh Negi (of Kullu) and the Route Guide was Pankaj Negi (of Janglikh village). There were 7-8 porters, all from Janglikh, to carry our rations, tents, baggage and all the other stuff.

14th Sept 2008: We all assembled by evening of 14th Sept at teh picturesque Hathkoti town in teh Pabbar Valley and stayed in the HPTDC Adventure Tours & Sports GH for the night. That evening we visited the clean and well-laidout Hatkoteshwari (Durga) Temple, adjacent to our GH and also walked down to the Pabbar river bank and watched local kids swimming and frolicking in the river and a serious fisherman "stalking" the river with his Net, for a catch of fresh fish.
