Title
OP46 plot the magnetic field of a bar magnet
Apparatus
A Compass is a small metal pin that has been magnetised and is allowed to align with the earths magnetic field, without interference from another object.
We can use them to plot the area of flux (the place around where the magnet effects)
Method
To plot the outline of magnetic field lines around a Magnet.
1 place a magnet in the centre of a large sheet of paper, draw the outline of the magnet!
2 At a point on the side near a pole make a mark. From this point place the compass
3 Place a number of dots at points on the edge of the compass where the needle points!
4 Repeat the previous 2 steps placing the back of the needle on the point last made
5 Continue making these marks until you return back to the other side of the magnet
You want to get at least 6 lines showing the magnetic field lines about the magnet!
Diagram & Results / Observations
Conclusions
*A magnetic field is the space around a magnet where certain materials and other magnets will experience a magnetic force.
A magnetic Field line,
joins places of equal magnetic attractive force. These lines always go from north to south. When drawing these lines place an arrow showing this direction
Comments
It would be fantastic if your sketching looked like the one above
