OC35 state the names and formulae of common strong acids and bases:
Common Acids and Bases
You will notice that Acids have the H+ ion at the start of their chemical formula.
H2SO4, Sulphuric Acid
HCl Hydrochloric Acid
HF Hydroflouric Acid
Bases have the OH- ion at the end
Sodium Hydroxide NaOH,
Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2,
Potassium Hydroxide KOH
and understand that alkalis are soluble bases
Sodium Carbonate Na2CO3
So these are the chemical formula for the many of the acids you might meet in the chemistry lab, but what about the acids and bases we discovered ??
