A single figure walked with self-important steps along the the main street, where the main force of the vampires were wreaking havoc. He wore a brown leather jacket with white fur on the collar, and had brown leather pants that were worn and torn in different paces. His face was covered with a huge grin, and his long, curled black hair waved in the wind.
A woman ran up to him for help but stopped herself when she saw the long teeth that seemed to ask, "Chew, on whom?" He quickly dispatched the woman by snapping her neck and continued his walk.
"I knew you would be here!" said a voice familiar to the vampire. He stopped in his tracks and turned his neck ninety degrees to take a look at his long-lost friend.
"Ah, Biggins. I hoped to see you here. There were rumors about your presence here. How're things holdin' up, old man?"
"I'm as old as you are, Ginger. And how things are in my life is no longer a concern of yours." Biggins stepped out into the street to block the path of the vampire lord in front of him. "Take these beasts and crawl back to whence you came!"
"I'm sorry, old man. But I can't do that."
Biggins fought to control his emotions. This had been one of his best friends, lost on a mission gone horribly wrong, and now he had to consider him his enemy. "One of us will die, Ginger, if you don't."
"Hmm... Probably, but then again, I'm already dead, aren't I?" Ginger chuckled. "But these creatures aren't my doing, you see. I just took the opportunity to add to the mayhem for what seems to be real vampires at least. They smell different, though. I can't put my finger on it..."
"Leave!" Biggins said with a determined face.
"I will as soon as I find my little girl. She should be here somewhere."
"You've found Jackie? I thought she was with her uncle in South Africa?"
Ginger sniffed the air. "No, as always, she never knew when to stay put or follow orders, so she left for that old man in France and joined his paranoid crusade. She actually believes his stories about secret societies controlling the world... heh heh heh."
"Okay, then, I will find her and talk some sense into her, but in the meantime, you should leave before I kill you. You know I can and will..."
"Yes, you would," Ginger replied and looked into the sky as the sound of something fast flying by reached their ears. "Ah, there she is. She seems a bit occupied right now. I will return when the weather is better. How can you live here, Biggins old chap? It's awful!"
Biggins watched the armored girl now calling herself Ameristar fly off with someone who screamed for help. When he looked back, Ginger was gone, and only the mayhem was left.
Three vampires had found him and wrongly thought him to be a easy target; they charged. Biggins smiled. What a way to live, but it was fun.
Inside the MBL Consulting building, Tayden rolled his eyes as the survivors in the apartment complex started another chorus of I'd like to buy the world a Coke. Looking up, he said, "This is a joke, right? Is this why am I really here?"
Just then, he heard something he didn't notice before. "SHHHH! Everybody quiet!" They all looked at Tayden. The angel's eyes focused on the crowd as he said, "Is someone crying?"
"No way, man, I'm having a blast," a long-haired young man with a Misfits shirt remarked.
As the beyond-content crowd continued their merry 1970s anthem, Tayden followed his ears to a nearby closet. He quickly opened the door. Before him, curled in a fetal position on the floor, was a young male, no more than sixteen or seventeen, in some kind of uniform.
"What your story, trooper?" Tayden said with a smirk.
"I... I wanted to be part of the PSI-Unit..." the boy said, indicating the poorly constructed, homemade copy of the PSI-Unit uniform he wore. "But... I couldn't face what's out there. I don't know why I'm here... I want to go h-home." The boy started to weep.
Tayden grabbed the boy's hand and helped him up. Tayden's touch felt like Christmas. The kid started to calm. "How did you get in here, man?" Tayden inquired.
"I came into a crack in the boarded-up windows... Ya see, I ain't psychic, like the real PSI-Unit, but I have a unique ability... I can turn myself into various forms of light... and--"
"Wait -- even ultraviolet light?" Tayden asked, cutting the boy off.
"Sure." The kid started to wipe the tears from his eyes. "I was gonna call myself Light Boy."
"Certainly, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Kid, you're gonna be a hero." Tayden looked toward the window and smiled a devilish grin.
