Nowhereman was still trying to process what Arnold Julius Reiner had told them. "Okay, so if we are to believe what you're saying, why the hell did they come here and not some other realm?"
AJR explained, "The reality you come from is one of two prime realities. You are from the positive prime..."
"I take it, then, that the other prime reality is the negative!" said Nowhereman.
"Correct."
"So why weren't we destroyed with our realities?" asked Captain Howdy.
"As I said before," continued AJR, "an anomaly occurred which changed all the normal rules, allowing you two to end up here."
"Okay, okay," said Jack Nasty, "so would you care to explain who you are?"
AJR said, "I am the possessor of the Nowhereforce in my reality, but unlike you idiots, I gained the power at the dawn of time, and during many lifetimes I have discovered things about the force that you would not be able to fathom!"
"Wanker!" said Howdy.
"Be quiet, idiot!" said AJR. "During my lifetime, I became bored with saving lives and doing good, so I retired to observing and formulated my next move!"
Jack Nasty became more and more agitated, until finally he snapped and rushed at Reiner. "Fuck all this shit -- I'm gonna take the bastard down!"
Reiner raised his right hand in Jack's direction, and with a slight ripple in the air, Jack vanished.
"What the fuck did you just do to Jack?" demanded Nowhereman.
"Do not worry unjustly," said AJR. "I haven't hurt Jack. He is just fulfilling his destiny!"
"What the fuck do you mean by that?" asked Howdy.
Reiner sighed, shaking his head. "Why do you idiots insist on such crass language?"
"Are you taking the fucking piss?" Howdy said, exasperated.
"Shut it!" Nowhereman said to Howdy. "Reiner, what the HELL do you mean by destiny?"
With that, Reiner made another gesture, and a book floated down from his bookcase. He passed it to Nowhereman. "Here -- this should explain a few things!"
Nowhereman took the book and examined the cover: The American West, by Dee Brown. "You want me to read about cowboys and fucking Indians?"
"Page sixty-two," said Reiner.
Nowhereman skipped to the page and saw a bunch of old photographs of men such as Wyatt Earp and Billy the Kid. The last photo was of the mysterious masked man known only as the Nowherekid.
"Look carefully at the picture," said AJR, smiling.
"Yeah," said Nowhereman. "I see a masked man who is one of my predecessors!"
AJR nodded. "Look carefully."
Nowhereman looked again, when suddenly he realized what he saw. "It's Jack! The Nowherekid is Jack!"
"As I said," continued Arnold Julius Reiner, "he had a destiny to fulfill, as do you both. Now onto you, Captain Howdy!"
BANG!
The office blew up, and everyone apparently died. It was exactly midnight.
