Meanwhile, Flintlock and J.T. Free were in the midst of a battle with nearly two thousand members of the Insane Rabid Militia Gerbils. Anyway, the gerbils were getting pounded despite the fact that J.T. and Flintlock were outnumbered. The battle soon concluded, and the two heroes were continuing their search for Beer-Drinking Lad when J.T. Free's wrist communicator started to beep. J.T. responded. "'Sup?"
Assistant Boy: "The city is under attack by that Bradford the Boring guy and his band of dull drones. Where are you?!"
JTF: "Minnesota."
AB: "Minnesota! What in the name of all that's good possessed you to go to Minnesota? Don't you know it's the middle of December?"
JTF: "I know, but it's this new group I joined. I'm helping them fight an epic battle.
AB: "There's no time for epics! Get back here, quick!"
"On my way. J.T. Free out." He turned to Flintlock and explained, "I gotta go defend my home."
Flintlock: "I understand. I'll find the Lad."
"Thanks. I'll return as soon as possible." J.T. Free then departed.
Amidst a mass of unconscious bodies, the fight still raged on, but was slowly but surely dying off.
Marv Velo was about to be hit from behind, but instead it was the Boull that was knocked out.
"Thanks, Major Man," Velo said to his teammate.
"They're almost out! Don't give up!" Agent F7 was saying.
He was right. There were only about ten left, and quickly their numbers were cut down even moreso. Three converged on Velo. "Speck?" he asked, his voice unwavering.
In a blur, all three were tossed up and down until they, too, were out. Velo was glad to see that despite how the Boull made Speck ineffective by turning him into superfast particles early on and swarming him, his friend was up to par again.
"So that's it?" asked Zed. Lioness, Disco Stave, and Fleetfoot had regained consciousness just moments before, so a mere eight heroes were still standing.
"Yeah," Nightwatch said. "After you took out Smasher, it seemed to get easier. That, coupled with Velo stopping their teleportation in and out of here, turned everything in our favor."
"Wait," Agent F7 said. "That voice thing said that reinforcements were on the way."
"You mean we're still gonna have to fight more of... those?" Marv Velo asked in disbelief. "The device that Worm gave me got destroyed about a minute ago. If their reinforcements realize that, we're gonna have to stay here..."
"No," said a voice behind them. "We can take care of things here."
The remaining heroes turned around, and they saw Caped Cadet standing there with about a group of fifteen comprised of some old members, including Morpheos Konstantin, and several allies such as Albino Chameleon, Stickman, and Bubbleman.
"All right," Agent F7 said with a smile. "So where should we go from here?"
After his teammate J.T. Free's departure, Flintlock walked along until he reached a door. He slowly opened the door and looked inside. The room was very large. On either side were statues lined up the length of the room. On the ceiling there was a skylight shining down. That light shone down on the far end of the room.
Flintlock started to walk slowly to the far end of the room. As he got closer, he saw the object on which the light was shown. It was an orb. He said to himself softly, "That is where the Lad is."
He took out a bag with some weight in it, and as he took the orb, he put the bag in its place. He then heard a soft rumbling and realized he set off a trap. "Oh, no! Ahhh!"
Flintlock ran toward the door. As he was getting closer to the door, he turned around and saw a large boulder rolling after him. "Ahhhhh!"
He ran all over the compound. He zigged and zagged, but the boulder was still on his tail. Then he stopped. "Wait. I can stop that thing." He took out his rocket launcher, turned around, aimed, and fired.
The boulder exploded with a loud bang.
Flintlock: "Well, now that that is taken care of, better get back to the others."
